Economic Highlights

The headline inflation edged down to 2.8% y-o-y in August, from +3.2% in July (+3.5% in June). This was due to the slower increase in the prices of raw and processed food products after the festive season. Raw and processed food prices recorded a slower increase of 5.1% and 5.9% in August, compared with +6.8% and +6.2% in July. Meanwhile, the cost of transportation, communications & financial services deflated by a larger magnitude of -1.9%, from -1.5% in the previous month. These were, partly offset by a faster increase in the prices of rest of the cetegories.
