Singapore’s industrial
production index (IPI) declined 4.8% y-o-y in September, retreating from
its 7.1% plunge in August and 6.6% fall in July. The recovery was largely
underpinned by a surge in biomedical manufacturing output, whereas
manufacturing activities from the precision engineering and transportation
sectors continued to deteriorate, mitigating some of the upside. Excluding
the volatile biomedical manufacturing sector, the IPI would have nosedived
10.2% y-o-y in September, worsening from its 8.4% fall in August.
