MARC
has assigned a AAA rating to Malayan Banking Berhad’s (Maybank) Senior
Medium-Term Note (MTN) programme of up to RM10.0 billion in nominal value. The
outlook on the rating is stable. The rating on the MTN is equalised to
Maybank’s financial institution long-term rating of AAA/stable premised on the
seniority of the MTN. The details on Maybank’s long-term and short-term
financial institution ratings of AAA/MARC-1/stable have been provided in the
rating review announced on July 29, 2015. Please refer to MARC’s website www.marc.com.my for the financial institution rating announcement and the report.
The
rating agency’s assessment on Maybank took into consideration the bank’s very
strong domestic banking franchise and resilient earnings generation,
underpinned by a stable funding structure and strong capital position.
Domestically, Maybank remains the largest financial service provider with total
assets of RM463.0 billion as at end-June 2015. The bank’s total capital
adequacy ratio remains well above the industry average at 15.7% in the same
period.
