Economic Update
Strong Exports Drives GDP Higher   Vietnam’s real GDP picked up to a growth of 6.4% YoY in the January-September period. This was from a growth of 5.7% in 1H17 and compared to 5.9% in the same period last year. We believe the strong growth in exports and FDI inflows, along with resilient domestic demand, ought to continue supporting overall economic activity. For 2018, we expect the country’s real GDP to grow at sustained pace of 6.1% in 2017, albeit slowing from the 6.3% expected for 2017. This is on account of:     i.   Strong inflows of foreign direct investments (FDIs);    ii.   Sustained exports amid continued growth in global trade activity;   iii.   Robust private investment; The Government’s efforts on economic restructuring and institutional reform.
