The Malaysian
Institute of Economic Research’s (MIER) business conditions index (BCI)
improved for the second straight quarter to register a gain of 5.8 points
to 92.9 in 1Q 2016, after a modest gain of 0.7
point to 87.1 in 4Q.
Despite back-to-back gains, the index remains below the threshold of 100
points and was still 8.1 points lower compared to a year ago, suggesting that
businesses remain cautious at the start of 2016.
