Thailand’s
customs merchandise exports plummeted by 8.7% y-o-y in December,
slipping from a 7.4% fall the month before. The slump was driven by
agricultural exports which declined 9.8% y-o-y, extending its 7.0% fall in
November. Meanwhile, industrial shipments contracted 6.7% y-o-y, improving
slightly from -6.8% in November, underpinned by a softer fall in exports of
rubber products. For the full year, Thai exports and imports declined 5.8%
and 10.7%, from readings of -0.4% and -9.0% respectively in 2014, resulting
in a trade surplus of USD11.7bn for 2015.
