Comparing Two Presidential Candidates’ Programmes

Comparing Two Presidential Candidates’ Programmes
¨      As the time approaches to the D-day of presidential election (9th July 2014), we take the initiative to compare the two candidates’ programmes and the likely impact on Indonesia’s economy. This report is not meant to judge whether one candidate’s programme is better than the other, but to focus on their implication for the economy.
¨      In broad terms, the two candidates have remarkable programmes and agendas that are in favour of not only raising economic growth and productivity, but also to promote social objectives such as lower poverty, more income equality and better human development.
¨      Generally speaking, both candidates’ programmes and agendas are fairly similar. Both candidates have also proclaimed to embrace democracy and human rights upon winning. Hence, with the assumption that the programmes and agendas mentioned are well implemented, Indonesia economy will likely move towards progression whichever candidate wins the election, in our view.
